Updates
4/11/07
SOS has two types of updates: Application and Curriculum. The
auto update service now alerts you about both rather than just
application updates as it has been in previous. The 2005 version
of SOS did not have any application updates and so far the 2006
version has not had any either. There have been many curriculum
updates. For information on revisions, read below.
If you are having trouble accessing the Auto Update Service,
make sure 'sosauc.exe' (the name of the auto update program) is
not being blocked by your firewall. Try disabling it to see if
SOS can connect. If it can, make sure the SOS update program is
not being blocked or turn off the firewall each time you want to
check for updates. If you have a firewall besides the Windows
Firewall, you will need to contact the make of the firewall for
the steps for making sure the program 'sosauc.exe' is not
blocked. To check if it being blocked by the Windows Firewall,
do the following:
For Windows Vista
1. Click on the Start button then open Control Panel
2. Select Windows Firewall. Check to see if it is set to Auto.
3. If it is, Click on 'Allow a program through Windows
Firewall'. This shows all applications that are Allowed or
Denied.
4. Make sure the program 'sosauc.exe' and the URL, http://www.aop.com/webservices/sosupdate/versionchecker.asmx,
are not blocked. If you also see these programs blocked, remove
them too: sqlmangr.exe SOSTeacher.exe, SOSStudent.exe,
SOSHStudentapp.exe and SOSHApp.exe.
5. Click OK to close Windows Firewall settings.
For Windows XP
1. Click on the Start button then open Control Panel
2. If it says "Pick a Category" click "Classic
View" on the left side of the window then double-click on
Windows Firewall. Check to see if it is set to On.
3. If it is, Click on View or change Settings. This shows
all applications that are Allowed or Denied
4. Make sure the program 'sosauc.exe' and the URL, http://www.aop.com/webservices/sosupdate/versionchecker.asmx,
are not blocked. If you also see these programs blocked, remove
them too: sqlmangr.exe SOSTeacher.exe, SOSStudent.exe,
SOSHStudentapp.exe and SOSHApp.exe.
5. Click OK to close Windows Firewall settings.
Revisions
7/13/07
When errors are discovered in the curriculum, periodically
revisions are released to correct them. The Revisions contain
the data necessary to update lessons, quizzes or tests that
contain errors. The Revision files install in the same way as
the Curriculum disks. If you have the Auto Update Service turned
on, you should be notified when they are released.
(If the computer needing the revisions is not connected to the
Internet, you’ll need go to a computer that can access the
Internet to burn the revision files to a CD disk, or copy them
to a USB Flash drive so you can get them to the computer that
needs them)

*If you have the 2005 version of SOS or earlier, please write
down what revisions were installed and the date on which they
were installed for your reference. The 2006 and newer versions
of SOS have a folder in Curriculum Setup called Revisions that
has a list of the material currently updated by the revisions.
Note: The revisions do not apply to
lessons that have been completed or have been opened. To have it
apply to those, you would have to clear the lesson but this will
delete all of the students work.
REPORTING ERRORS NOT COVERED BY
REVISIONS
If the error/problem does not go away after you apply the
revisions double check:
1. Verify it is an error.
2. Make sure it was not already covered by a previous curriculum
revision. (go to the revisions page and click on "FIXNOW
Documentation" above the revision links to view the
assignments covered by the revisions)
3. If you have verified it is an error and was not covered by
previous revisions go to http://www.aop.com/sos/Support_IssueReporting.php
and submit it there.
If it wasn't corrected by the current revisions, the best
temporary solution is to change the grade. To change the grade,
open SOS Teacher,
1. Click on the Lesson Book button.
2. Select the student whose curriculum you want to edit from the
upper right corner.
3. Under "Student" select the subject then unit that
has the lesson you want to regrade
4. Next double-click the lesson on the right side and change the
grade.
